Will this tap fit your basin?

Compare three different measurements: the height of the tap, the height of its outlet and how far the spout reaches. Then check them against the basin and the position of the tap hole.

Go to the measuring checklist
Three tap measurements, shown schematicallyOverall height runs from the mounting surface to the highest point. Outlet height runs from that surface to the water outlet. Spout reach runs horizontally from the mounting centre to the outlet. This diagram has no numerical scale.Overall heightOutlet heightSpout reachMounting surface

Overall height is not outlet height.

The overall height describes how tall the tap is. The outlet height describes where water leaves the spout, measured from the reference surface shown on the drawing. A tall handle does not necessarily mean a high outlet.

For a countertop basin, compare the outlet position with the basin rim and the worktop where the tap will sit. For a tap mounted on the basin itself, use the basin’s mounting surface. Comparing two measurements taken from different surfaces can give a misleading impression of clearance.

Leave the final clearance and installation position to the exact drawings and your installer. There is no single tap height that suits every countertop basin.

Measure where the spout will land.

Spout reach is a horizontal measurement. Check whether the drawing measures from the tap’s mounting centre, inlet centre or another reference point. Compare that point with the proposed tap hole and the basin’s usable bowl.

For a replacement, record the existing tap-hole position before choosing a new mixer. For a new worktop, choose the basin and tap together before the hole position is finalised. Wall-mounted mixers also need the finished wall position and installation depth considered.

The aim is comfortable access and water directed into the bowl. A drawing alone cannot guarantee splash-free use: basin shape, outlet design, flow and the final installation all matter. View the combination in person where possible and have the proposed arrangement checked.

Read the drawing: Artize Tailwater.

The shared manufacturer drawing for TWR-75011B marks an overall height of 182 mm, an outlet height of 64 mm and a horizontal spout reach of 135 mm. The tall curved lever contributes to overall height; it does not make the outlet 182 mm high.

For example, a basin rim that sits higher than the marked outlet position, measured from the same mounting surface, would need a different arrangement. Compare both drawings before deciding where the tap goes. Reach alone does not confirm clearance, fit or splash behaviour.

A second check: Artize Vic inclusions.

The manufacturer sheet for the Chrome VIC-CHR-503009B describes a high-neck basin mixer without a pop-up waste, supplied with 450 mm braided hoses. It lists a recommended operating pressure of 1–5 bar.

Those details answer different questions: hose length is not spout reach, and pressure suitability does not establish physical fit. Check the product’s technical drawing for dimensions and confirm the basin and waste separately.

Take these details to your installer.

  • The exact tap and basin product codes, with both drawings.
  • The basin’s mounting format, rim height and tap-hole arrangement.
  • The tap’s overall height, outlet height and reach, with the measurement reference points.
  • The tap-hole position relative to the bowl, wall and any upstand.
  • Space to move the handle and reach the fixings and connections.
  • The water-system information your installer needs to assess pressure and flow.
  • Confirmation of the waste, overflow arrangement and supplied components.

For an existing bathroom, add photographs of the basin, tap hole and connections underneath. Keep unconfirmed measurements marked as questions rather than estimates in an order.

Choose the combination, then the finish.

Once the mounting arrangement and dimensions work, compare finishes and maintenance requirements. The basin mixer buying guide brings these decisions together. You can also browse basins and taps and mixers separately and bring a shortlist to the showroom.

Bring both drawings.

Share the tap and basin codes with the Birmingham team, along with your measurements and the questions you need to resolve. Ask which products are available to view before travelling.
