Choosing a whirlpool bath

How to choose a whirlpool bath that fits your room and your routine, and what to confirm about space, access and cost before you order.

Before you begin

Start with the delivery route, the space around the bath and access for future maintenance. Then compare the water and air settings in person. This guide helps you check what is included, prepare questions for your installer and compare the full cost of the project.

Whirlpool bath or spa: which suits your plans?

A whirlpool bath adds moving water to a bath you fill and drain as usual. A spa, such as the Nuovo, is a different product with its own water-care and operating routine. Start by deciding whether you want a bath within your bathroom or a dedicated spa, then ask the team to explain the care routine for the exact model you are considering.

Whirlpool jets circulate water through the bath. An airpool system blows air through outlets to make bubbles. Some baths combine the two, including the Tiaara. Ask which settings can run together on the model you are comparing, listen to it running and try the controls. The number of jets alone will not settle which one you prefer.

Planning the room and the delivery route

Begin with the footprint and work outward. The Tiaara is listed at 1900 × 900 mm, so the first drawing should show that rectangle alongside the space you need to step in, dry off and reach a towel. Then plan the delivery route: measure doorways, turns, stairs and the path from the front door, because a large bath has to reach the room before it can be fitted.

Servicing access is the space an installer needs to reach the pumps and connections later. Ask how that access will be kept clear once the panels and tiles are fitted. Bring room measurements and photographs to the showroom, then ask your installer to check the proposed position and water and power connections before you commit.

Let the room, the route and your routine set the brief before you compare models.

For White, our showroom team can help with delivery dates, access requirements and installation planning. 520 mm is the retailer-listed bath height. Overall installation height must be confirmed from the final manufacturer drawing.

The Artize Tiaara as a worked example

The Artize Tiaara AWL-WHT-TIAARA190CX is one example of a combined system. The current retailer listing specifies eight water jets, four back jets, sixteen air jets and chromotherapy lighting, which means coloured light built into the bath. During your visit, check whether you can comfortably reach the controls and ask which settings you can adjust separately.

The current listing includes the frame, headrest and drain. The panels are excluded and need to be quoted separately. Check that your written quote lists everything you expect to receive. Your installer should use the current technical drawing to confirm installation height and clearances for the exact model.

Lighting and sound: three checks before you buy

Try the settings you expect to use at home. If the bath will be used in the evening or beside a bedroom, these checks can help you judge it:

  • Can you adjust or turn off the coloured light independently? Ask what the controls actually offer.
  • Can you reach the controls comfortably from the bathing position?
  • How does the system sound with water jets, air jets and combined settings running? Mention any adjoining bedroom.

Tell the team if noise or easy-to-reach controls are priorities. Check them during the visit before the bathroom layout is agreed.

Ask how an installer will reach the pumps after the bath, panels and tiles are fitted.

Questions for your installer

Ask your installer to review the current technical drawing for the exact SKU on your quotation. SKU is the product code: it helps identify the model and specification being ordered. Agree the following before work begins:

  • Who will confirm and connect the required electrical and water supplies?
  • How will the pumps and connections be reached after the bath is fitted?
  • What is the finished installation height, including the frame, panels and floor?
  • Who supplies and fits the panels?
  • Who will commission the system, meaning check it works after installation, explain the controls and hand over the care documents?

Understanding the total project cost

Ask for an itemised quote covering the bath, separately supplied panels, taps and any other fittings, delivery, plumbing, electrical work, waterproofing and finishing. Include a contingency for work that only becomes apparent when the existing bathroom is opened up.

For example, one quote might cover the bath and panels while another covers the bath alone. Compare the same items and installation scope before deciding which costs less. Check who handles delivery into the room, rather than assuming delivery to the property includes that service.

Care, cleaning and visiting the showroom

Clean and maintain the bath exactly as the manufacturer instructs, including which products are safe for the surfaces and the jets. Keep the documentation somewhere you will find it, rather than improvising with household cleaners that may be unsuitable.

Bring your room plan, photographs and any shortlisted products to our Birmingham showroom at 40–48 Cheapside. Free parking is available. Confirm which products you can see or try before travelling; the showroom team will confirm your visit request.

  • Bring a dimensioned plan of your bathroom, including door and window positions.
  • Note your water pressure and how it is supplied, if you know it.
  • List who will use the bath and when.
  • Decide your rough budget range, including installation.
  • Ask for the current technical drawing and confirm panel, frame and drain details.
  • Confirm which models are on display before you travel.

Clean to the manufacturer's instructions, and use the showroom to test the decisions you cannot make on paper.

Questions, answered.

What is the difference between a whirlpool bath and a spa?

A whirlpool bath is normally filled and drained for each bath, while a spa has its own operating and water-care routine. Ask the team to compare the exact models before deciding which suits your home.

Does the Tiaara include everything I need?

The current listing includes the frame, headrest and drain. Panels are excluded, so ask for them to be priced separately. Check every included and excluded item on your written quote.

What should my installation team confirm?

Ask them to check the current drawing, the space needed for installation and maintenance, service connections, structural support and who will check the system after fitting.

How should I clean the bath?

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the surfaces and the jet system, and keep the documentation to hand.
